Job description

APA is a leading Australian energy infrastructure business. We own and/or manage and operate a diverse, $25 billion portfolio of gas, electricity, solar and wind assets. Consistent with our purpose to strengthen communities through responsible energy, we deliver approximately half of the nation's gas usage and connect Victoria with South Australia, Tasmania with Victoria and New South Wales with Queensland through our investments in electricity transmission assets. We are also one of the largest owners and operators of renewable power generation assets in Australia, with wind and solar projects across the country.

In 2023 APA acquired Alinta's Pilbara Energy business - an energy infrastructure business underpinned by high-quality gas power generation and renewable assets and a project pipeline of an estimated $3 billion dollars spread across the Pilbara and by a team with a track record of delivering safe and reliable operations, as well as growth. These Pilbara assets include solar and gas power generation, battery storage, and electricity and gas transmission infrastructure. This is an established business with long-term contracts and a significant development pipeline for future growth. This acquisition capitalises on our existing capabilities in energy infrastructure and positions us to be the leading independent energy solutions provider in the Pilbara.

We employ more than 2700 people across Australia and know that they are the key to our success. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive culture, where all our people feel safe, valued, and trusted to do their best every day.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Manager Corporate Affairs, to join our Corporate Affairs and Sustainability team in our Perth office on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the General Manager Government & Industry Affairs, lead the development and implementation of Government & Industry Relations and Communications plans in Western Australia, to support APA's strategic objective to be the partner of choice in delivering infrastructure solutions for the energy transition.

  • Provide expert support to the GM Government & Industry Relations, the SCALT and the APA ELT to proactively advise on highly complex issues pertaining to the energy sector including those requiring advocacy to governments directly and through industry associations
  • Where required, support the development of positive relationships with key WA media, providing insights on local media issues and on the ground support to engagement opportunities
  • Oversee voluntary disclosure and reporting, planning and processes (including contributions to annual and sustainability reports) and develop and maintain the APA register of political database and engagement activity
  • Co-ordinate meetings with MPs/key figures, for senior executives, including the CEO, and follow-up with stakeholders as required

Your background

  • Tertiary qualification and/or relevant work experience in related discipline
  • Demonstrated successful experience and management of government relationships and stakeholders in WA
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of government processes and the relationships between political offices and the bureaucracy
  • Experience in other Corporate Affairs areas/functions highly regarded
  • The role forms part of APA's Sustainability and Corporate Affairs division, which has responsibility for employee, external, digital, government and industry and sustainability initiatives

The division also supports the business by providing strategic communications, branding, social media and digital support.
