The School of Alternative Learning Settings (SALS) is seeking to appoint a motivated, dedicated, and innovative Manager Corporate Services to join the executive leadership team based in Padbury.

About the role

As the Manager Corporate Services, the successful applicant will work closely with the Principal to manage the financial, physical, and human resource processes of the school. You will oversee the business operations and work collaboratively with the executive leadership team to recruit, supervise, and manage support staff. The successful applicant should provide consistency for financial planning and budgeting within the school and possess a sound understanding of Department policies and guidelines.

As an experienced Manager Corporate Services, the successful applicant should have a high-level of communication skills and experience in establishing and managing corporate support systems. It is highly desirable for the successful applicant to be team-focussed and work with existing and expanding teams. The successful applicant will be accountable for the effective provision of corporate support and enabling systems across all SALS school sites. It is highly desirable that the successful applicant brings the following characteristics/qualities to the role: initiative, enthusiasm, can-do attitude, team player, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Displaying and/or projecting an understanding of how to manage and coordinate 12 sites around the state with approximately 100 staff, along with networking seamlessly with Central Services and Statewide Services is highly desirable.

About SALS

Since 2019, the Alternative Learning Settings (ALS) program has targeted a specific cohort of students who have demonstrated signs of physical aggression and would benefit from a short-term, intensive intervention program. SALS delivers specialised activities and learning programs that build students’ social skills and self-regulation in environments designed to affect positive and lasting change in their behaviour. The program has the capacity to provide access to specialists such as paediatricians, clinical psychologists, or consultation with psychiatrists.

At the commencement of the 2022 academic year the program has been consolidated as a stand-alone school and has several ALS sites located in the metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. The SALS is part of the network of specialist schools that operate under the Statewide Services pillar of Service Delivery. Our main school office administration is located at the Statewide Services centre, in Padbury.

Each setting accommodates up to 10 students who are provided with an intensive, individualised program of support while they continue their education. There is a strong focus on developing students’ social skills and ability to self-regulate. Learning and engagement is flexible, co-designed with students, culturally responsive and supports self-determination and interpersonal connection.

The role is based at the Statewide Services Centre in Padbury and may involve occasional travel to individual ALS sites, including overnight stays and air travel throughout WA. Successful applicants will be required to hold a current and valid ‘C’ class drivers licence.

All functions of Statewide Services support successful outcomes for all students. This is achieved through a focus on better integration of services with schools, students, families, and external service providers; supporting schools and networks of schools to deliver high quality teaching and learning in every classroom; and creating expanded opportunities for students to develop the academic, personal, and social competencies they will need for participation in the workforce and society of the future.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Well-developed skills and experience in managing Corporate Services functions and the ability to contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of business plans.
  • Well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and the ability to consult, collaborate, negotiate and communicate effectively and professionally and build effective relationships and networks.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in financial management and budget preparation and an understanding of the financial regulatory framework, including the Australian Accounting Standards, the Financial Management Act, tax legislatures and other relevant legislation.
  • Well-developed human resource management skills, including the ability to develop and apply human resource management practices and systems in leading and managing staff across various sites.
  • Well-developed organisational, problem-solving and risk management skills and the ability to identify trends, issues and problems and generate strategies to address them.
