The Manager, Cultural Safety will hold accountability for collaboration across the department to support the Victorian health system to be accessible for the Aboriginal community. This will include changing structures, systems, processes and practices to ensure services and staff are culturally safe and responsive to the health and wellbeing priorities of Aboriginal community at the local and state level.
The Manager will lead a small team to coordinate and lead responses to new and emerging issues and risks relating to Cultural Safety and supporting the delivery of Aboriginal employment priorities across the department.
The role involves developing effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders including across the department, with other government agencies, health services and key Aboriginal health organisations.

How you'll make a difference:
- Effectively supervise and provide leadership to an Aboriginal team of employees
- Oversee, monitor and deliver projects in line with principles of self-determination and relevant legislations, government regulations, and guidelines
- Identify emerging issues, risks, and trends impacting on the successful achievement of key business objectives and imperatives.
- Provide high-quality business intelligence and sound recommendations based on cultural knowledge and expertise, comprehensive research and investigations
- Formulate compliance and evaluation strategies to address specific issues related to the effective provision and implementation of required outcomes
- Provide a cultural lens, leadership, guidance and authoritative advice to internal & external stakeholders and present details comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs, cabinet and agency submissions on complex matters.
The successful applicant will demonstrate sound leadership and people management skills, as well as an ability to influence others to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of the Victorian health workforces and improve outcomes for Victorians. Along with these, they will also possess:
- Cultural knowledge and expertise including the ability to identify emerging issues, trends and potential risks that impact upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with Aboriginal organisations and Aboriginal community
- Strong understanding of the Victorian health system, and knowledge of the department and its processes and information systems.
