About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and experienced manager, with a track record of implementing innovative data systems, to lead the delivery of our global Exploration Data Science and Systems Capability team. This is a senior leadership role leading a diverse, high-performing team, reporting to the Head of Exploration Excellence and Innovation. You will be accountable for the strategic direction of best practice data analytics capability building and systems implementation that serves our globally distributed exploration customers.
As an engaging and collaborative leader, motivated to achieve business outcomes, you will foster an inclusive environment where data science and systems capability and a high performing culture underpins our success. Supported by a highly qualified and experienced team of data scientists and geoscience data specialists this role will require strong leadership skills and excellent stakeholder engagement to partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders that support the work. The role is ideally based in Toronto, however other BHP office locations including London and Perth will be considered for the right candidate.
As the Manager Data Capability you will:
- Shape the Data Capability Strategy for BHP Exploration.
- Build a strong team culture that is safe to speak up, encouraging innovation and diverse thinking.
- Support Exploration geoscience teams with data analytics and workflows and machine learning techniques that augment the process of predicting and detecting mineral systems.
- Deliver, with your team, measurable Data Capability and systems improvements and outcomes to the Exploration business.
- Maintain the currency, integrity and utility of all data management systems with Exploration.
- Augment data management process though application of best practice data and computer science.
- Build strong working relationships both internally and externally to support the team's objectives.
You are a forward-thinking inclusive leader with a strong focus on culture, capability, productivity and innovation. You enjoy experimenting and testing new ideas and ways of working to respond to customer needs and exploration science and data challenges. You draw on your deep data science and management experience and leverage your networks to make decisions that deliver value through data, promoting our success through the broader BHP business.
You are a capable people leader and experienced project manager. Ideally you will be tertiary qualified in Data/Computer Science or a similar discipline with deep experience in implementation of end-end data management systems and workflows. Working knowledge or experience of the exploration and mining environment will be a distinct advantage. We celebrate diversity of thought and experience within our team.
