About the job

Elevate your career by leading and managing the Engineering Capital Delivery Services team at SA Water. As a Manager Engineering Delivery, you'll be at the forefront of shaping the future of our organization. This role puts you in charge of a team that excels in engineering services, focusing on strategic planning and delivering a pipeline of capital projects. You'll ensure projects meet quality, cost, and timeline targets while managing technical and delivery risks. Collaborate closely with business partners to develop tailored delivery strategies that align with our goals. Your leadership will be essential in guiding the team toward successful outcomes, establishing clear baselines, and maintaining accountability across all engineering efforts.

Stepping into this dynamic role, you will lead a diverse team of four direct reports, driving the transition to Sustainable Engineering for SA Water. This involves implementing cutting-edge practices like Systems Engineering, Value Management, and Engineering Governance for capital delivery, with a strong emphasis on Sustainability in Design and project controls. Your leadership will significantly impact our organization’s future as you contribute to our strategic goal of sustainable and forward-thinking engineering solutions.

In this client-side role, you will be key in transforming the engineering department's working arrangements and practices, aligning them with the Sustainable Infrastructure group’s goals. In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Build and maintain a strong, constructive working relationship with their staff, focussed on achieving business goals and enabling their staff to work safely to their full potential.
  • Set effective baseline conditions for productive work by completing important people management processes of selection, induction, assessment and recognition of performance.
  • Take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others including your own fitness for work (e.g., under the influence of drugs, alcohol and/or fatigue).
  • Contribute to ‘Industry leading WHS performance across the entire engineering service delivery program.
  • Maintain an effective level of engineering capability to provide high quality project controls, advice and auditing services for SA Water capital projects.
  • Ensure the SAW “Sustainability in Design” process is incorporated into both in-house Engineering services and consulting Panels design processes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Build and Lead an Effective Team
    • Recruit, develop and retain high-calibre engineering professionals.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages open communication and knowledge-sharing.
    • Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  • Safety Above All Else
    • Champion a safety-first culture within the Engineering Team, promoting and ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and regulations.
    • Conduct regular safety training and awareness programs to mitigate potential risks and incidents.
    • Implement and monitor safety measures across all engineering projects to safeguard the well-being of team members and stakeholders.
  • Engineering Capability
    • Assess and enhance the engineering capabilities of the team through training, skill development, and continuous learning initiatives.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and engineering best practices to ensure the team remains at the forefront of innovation.
    • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify and implement improvements in engineering processes and methodologies.
  • Customer Service
    • Collaborate with business partners (BPs) and stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations.
    • Ensure that engineering projects align with customer requirements and deliver value to the organization.
    • Implement customer feedback mechanisms to continuously improve and enhance service delivery.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Engineering or related field tertiary qualification
  • Proven experience in project management, with a focus on engineering projects.
  • Extensive experience in managing multi-discipline engineering design teams.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership in guiding the team through challenges and fostering a collaborative work environment, a strategic mindset and the ability to lead teams through a transformative process.
  • Experience in managing consultants and contractors.
  • Detailed knowledge of engineering procedures and practices as applied to managing commercial risk in large engineering organisations.
  • Post graduate qualifications is desirable but not essential.
