This is a fixed term, full time vacancy available for 12 months, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency, subject to business requirements.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Court Risk Assessment Directorate is accountable for:

  • providing courts and tribunals with an intelligence led security capability that minimises or neutralises disruptions to operations;
  • providing the Office of the Public Advocate with an intelligence led security capability that enables it to minimise the risk to officers when dealing with clients in both the office and client residential environments;
  • enhancing the justice system by seeking to ensure that court security and court custody services contribute to the accessibility, good order and integrity of court operations;
  • protecting community values in relation to accessing the justice system; and
  • maintaining community confidence in the security arrangements at courthouses and tribunals.

The position is responsible for managing the Security Operations Branch:

  • working closely on a day to day basis with the Security Intelligence and Systems Coordination Branch of the Court Risk Assessment Directorate to identify and assess court security and custody risks;
  • working with court security and court custody stakeholders including external agencies to integrate, synchronise and balance physical, procedural and dynamic security strategies to effectively identify, assess and manage court security and custody risks;
  • working with court security and court custody service providers to minimise threats to the judiciary, public, departmental staff and other courts users;
  • where a multi-agency response to a threat is required, coordinating the implementation of physical, procedural and dynamic security arrangements to mitigate the risk;
  • conducting and reporting on facility security audits of courthouses;
  • advising on security requirements in new and renovated courthouses to ensure they meet department requirements and are consistent with best practice;
  • commission testing of security installations in new and renovated courthouses;
  • assessing the requirements and coordinating the installation of security systems at judicial officers’ residences;
  • accurately and timely reporting on operational security matters; and
  • as directed, investigating or reviewing incidents in accordance with terms of reference established by the appropriate authority.
  • The role has a requirement for regular intrastate travel.
