The University of Adelaide is a large and successful University in Australia's Group of Eight research intensive universities, distinguished by its international reputation and commitment to innovation and excellence in research and teaching. 

Under broad direction, the Manager Counselling Support is responsible for the operational and strategic leadership of Counselling Support, including the operational management of Generalist and Specialist Counsellors, Triage and Administrative staff, ensuring the provision of a comprehensive, responsive, and effective Counselling service to all enrolled students at the University. This role is accountable for services provided to students at risk and will play a pivotal role in managing critical incidents and emergency responses.

In this rewarding role, you will provide valuable contribution to the ongoing strategic development of Counselling Support, during a time of considerable institutional and sector change. You will initiate strategic projects to develop and promote counselling services across the university and will provide expert advice on student mental health and wellbeing to shape future student service modelling. This is a fantastic opportunity to be influential in the development of resources and the evolution of processes to promote positive student health and wellbeing outcomes.

To be successful you will need: 

  • Ensure a safe work environment and compliance with University HS&W policies and legislation.
  • Lead the professional staff in all aspects of people management including providing guidance, support and development.
  • Enable the team to deliver the business outcomes effectively and efficiently as practicable and promote continuous improvement.
  • Ensure a student centric service culture is applied within professional service.
  • Ensure timely completion of PDRs including development plans for direct reports and provide ongoing feedback on their work performance.
  • Provide induction to new staff members.
  • This position requires a valid Working with Children Check.
