Northparkes will celebrate 30 years of operations in 2024 and is known for innovative technology and committed people. Northparkes uses multiple mining methods including open pit, sub-level caving and was the first mine in Australia to use the block cave mining method. About the role 

Reporting to the General Manager of Northparkes (NPO), the Sustainability Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective health, safety, and environmental management system to meet all statutory and operational requirements across all disciplines at NPO. They also ensure an effective relationship is maintained, and further developed, with key community stakeholders to minimise any risks to our social licence to operate, as well as engaging with the community to create positive relationships and perception in community forums. The Sustainability Manager leads the Sustainability team which encompasses Environment and Farming, Community, Health, Safety and Risk, Emergency Response and site Security / Access. 

In this role you will facilitate a culture of safety awareness, and regularly review, report and communicate safety and environmental performance to all employees and other relevant stakeholders.  You will commit to maintaining health, safety and security standards and principles, within NPO, identifying potential risks throughout Evolution, as well as understanding and complying with requirements of environmental approvals and relevant environment, safety and health, and Native Title legislation.  

You will support the General Manager NPO in the development and implementation of long-term strategic planning for the site, which will include the oversight and management of annual plans and budgets across the sustainability function.  

This role is based at our Northparkes operation and will ideally be residential in Parkes or the surrounding areas, with potential for DIDO. To enable this a generous salary package including housing and vehicle allowances, relocation assistance, short- and long-term incentives, and additional other benefits is provided. 

About you 

You will have significant experience working within a medium to large organisation leading teams across Sustainability, Health, Safety and Environmental Management disciplines. You will ideally be degree qualified in Health, Safety or Environmental Management, and have an in-depth understanding of the NSW Mining legislation and how to apply it to health, safety, and environmental risk management.  

You will have a strong leadership presence, leading by example, and coaching and mentoring others to build organisation capability. You will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and promote collaboration, both within your team and cross-functionally across departments and disciplines. You will bring a deep understanding of the mining industry (or heavy industry), along with an established reputation for developing and driving business strategy and delivering results that contribute to the success of the organisation.
