As the accounting standards continue to change and challenge the industry, our team is expanding and continuing to uncover new opportunities and new ways to assist clients.Current opportunityThis main purpose of this role is to work in the IFRS & Corporate Reporting team to deliver engagements around voluntary and mandatory Sustainability Reporting, carbon footprint/accounting, and climate-related reporting strategy and transformation.This is a client-facing consulting role which will require the candidate to be based in our Sydney office and work with clients on the application of technical knowledge of climate-related and Sustainability Reporting frameworks. The role will involve significant project management and the delivery of related ESG services, including the coordination of other BDO service lines e.g., strategy & transformation, audit.This role will also be required to assist with CFO advisory work from time to time, which includes working on the finance function advisory services and transformation projects including process improvement, finance/ERP system selection and improvement, finance team structure reviews and financial and governance.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Measure carbon footprint for clients, including boundary setting and basis of preparation
  • Assist with the development of decarbonisation strategies, including target setting
  • Preparation of gap analysis re TCFD recommendations, IFRS S1 and IFRS 2
  • Preparation of voluntary and mandatory sustainability reports
  • Advise clients from a range of sectors on value-creating sustainable solutions.
  • Execute advisory services, including ESG strategy, materiality, roadmap development, transformation etc.
  • Work with the team to develop client strategies and execute bespoke solutions to address client ESG opportunities and challenges.
  • Liaise with senior stakeholders and clients to ensure objectives are met and risks are mitigated.
  • Understand and apply the firm’s quality and professional delivery standards required to deliver assurance services.
  • Develop externally facing material about the ESG practice (e.g. articles, presentations) and contribute to capability building internally through the development of tools and training where there is capacity.
What you’ll need to succeedThe ideal candidate is passionate about working with clients around their sustainability goals and has a strong desire to work in the ESG sector. Your generalist consulting experience across multiple sectors and engagement types gained within any of the leading professional services firm would be highly regarded.Your skills & attributes:
  • CA or CPA qualified, or tertiary qualification/s in a related discipline.
  • Sound experience working in an accounting, reporting or assurance role.
  • Demonstrable experience in climate/ESG/sustainability including reporting frameworks and executing solutions for clients in response to ESG-related challenges will be highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in consulting and project management in relation to transformation, strategy, and business operations.
  • Strong project management, research, and presentation capabilities.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a self-motivated approach to the role.
