About us:
This role reports to the Manager (Assets and Commercial Services) and is responsible for the safe and effective management of Environmental, Waste and Pest Control processes across the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS).
The position provides auditing, reporting and training to all staff in CQHHS through the development of programs to ensure legislative compliance against national and State standards. The position will identify, supervise, and report on contractor's performance for:

  • General waste
  • Clinical and Cytotoxic waste
  • Paper, Cardboard and other materials for recycling
  • Pest control
  • Water Quality Management (Legionella Control)
About the role:
  • Develop, implement and maintain the waste management plan, environmental management plan and dangerous goods safety management plan for CQHHS to ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection Act 1994, Environmental Protection (Waste Management) Regulation 2000, Environmental Protection (Waste Management) Policy 2000 and the Queensland Health Waste Management Strategic Plan.
  • Report Waste, Environment and Pest Control key performance indexes to the CQHHS Environmentally Safe Practice and Workplace Health and Safety Committee.
  • Formulate and implement appropriate initiatives to reduce utility usage across CQHHS.
  • Development of strategies and implement work practices to manage contemporary environmental issues, primarily the areas of clinical waste management, recycling, general waste management, paper recycling, disposal of dangerous liquids, waste strategies, waste tracking systems and maintenance across CQHHS Hospital.
  • Plan and manage waste audits and monitoring to ensure continued segregation of all waste streams across CQHHS.
About you:
The ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
  • Sound knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act, licensing negotiations and ensuring compliance with environmental obligations and licensing requirements.
  • An understanding of the importance of quality, safety and risk in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor the effectiveness of initiatives which support the CQHHS waste management strategies.
  • Extensive experience in the maintenance and development of large-scale waste management streams and a comprehensive knowledge of waste management theory, techniques and Environmental issues.
  • Experience or the ability to rapidly acquire experience, in developing and presenting training packages.
  • Ability to manage responsibly financial resources and practice sound budget control.

Salary information:
Total remuneration value of up to $10,173 p.m. is comprised of:
  • A salary between $3,906.20 - $4,101.00 p.f.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
