Unit: Waterways Division: City Life Location: Council Centre Employment status: Permanent Full-time Classification: Municipal Officer Level 6 Agreement: Hobart City Council Enterprise Agreement 2021 Salary range: $128,612 to $131,777 per annum + 12.5% superannuation.

About the role
The City of Hobart is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Manager Waterways. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategic initiatives to effectively and sustainably manage the city's catchments and stormwater systems. The primary focus of the role is to safeguard Hobart's natural and built environments, both presently and in the future. Additionally, the Manager, Waterways will oversee the integration and management of the City of Hobart's statutory responsibilities under the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993, the Urban Drainage Act 2013, and other pertinent legislation.
Role accountabilities include:
Manage Hobart's catchments and stormwater obligations, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and overseeing private landowner compliance.
Plan and execute flood mitigation measures, conduct technical assessments for development applications, and approve private works and developments.
Supervise customer service and permitting, while identifying and executing capital works projects.
Exemplify city values and management behaviours, fostering a culture of innovation and service excellence.
Facilitate cross-divisional cooperation and positive community communication to enhance the city's image as a provider of quality services.
Collaborate with relevant organisations on stormwater issues.
Efficiently manage resources, providing transformative leadership and mentoring staff for high performance.
Establish and monitor performance indicators, coordinate external consultants and contractors, and ensure compliance with legislation.
Engage with the community, deliver projects on time and within budget, and ensure adherence to relevant regulations.
Cultivate professional relationships, develop effective communication strategies, and foster a culture of trust.
Garner support for stormwater management initiatives and serve as a role model for professionalism and innovation.

About you
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree or higher in Stormwater/Water Catchment Engineering or a related field. They should have a deep understanding and extensive experience in hydraulic engineering, particularly in the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of stormwater systems, assets, and associated catchments. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate proficiency in assessing development applications concerning stormwater management for subdivisions and developments.
