The Role
Reporting to the Harbour Master of Esperance, you will be required to conduct safe and efficient pilotage of vessels through the direct application of a high level of ship handling skill, local port knowledge and general maritime expertise. The position will be based in Esperance although there will be the opportunity to obtain unrestricted pilotage licenses for the other ports within Southern Ports.
The Marine Pilots will work within a highly skilled professional team that works on a roster to provide a 24-hour - 7 days a week pilotage service for the Port of Esperance.
In addition to pilotage, you will be employed to ensure efficient operation of the vessel movements within the port and provide marine-based technical knowledge, assistance and support to the business. You will also be required to participate in and provide contributions to projects and assignments outside the immediate pilotage task as required. The successful candidate will also be involved in emergency and oil spill response.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role the candidate must:
  • Hold a valid Master Class 1, including Manila STCW 2010 Amendments or equivalent.
  • Current Pilot license from another Port will be viewed favorably.
  • Maintain and hold a standard of health as described in Marine Order 76.
  • Maintain a high degree of cognitive and physical fitness.
  • Competent in ship handling as Master or Pilot
  • Have a sound knowledge of the regulatory framework pertaining to Port Authorities Act and Regulation for Western Australia, and International regulations applicable to shipping.
  • Possess a high level of communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Valid Driver’s license
Requirements
To be eligible for this role, applicants must reside in or be willing to relocate to Esperance and provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
The successful applicant must have a current WA driver’s license, be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Access Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
