Your opportunity
We are looking for a suitably qualified person to join our team of Marine Pilots, servicing Newcastle.
Port Authority NSW Marine Pilots operate to a high standard of competency and undergo a comprehensive training program to achieve their initial licence and beyond, with the ultimate goal to become an unlimited licence pilot.
Here’s how your impact will truly count:
- You’ll deliver a safe and efficient pilotage service within the Ports.
- You’ll undertake and successfully progress through the approved Marine Pilot training program.
- You’ll practice, lead, and participate in, a highly reliable port resource management team.
- You’ll develop and maintain a high level of ship handling skills.
- You’ll Maintain a high degree of cognitive and physical fitness.
- You’ll Liaise with and advise the VTS Vessel Traffic Services, to ensure optimum efficiency in running the vessel movement programme.
- You’ll provide marine based technical knowledge, assistance and support to the wider business as required.
- You’ll participate in and contribute to projects and assignments outside of the immediate pilotage task when required.
- You’ll be Involved in and/or assistance with the planning of Emergency and Oil Spill Response exercises.
- You’ll undertake other duties as directed by Harbour Master.
What you’ll bring
- Master Unlimited Certificate of Competency recognised by AMSA or other qualification as accepted under the NSW Marine Pilotage Code
- Ability to obtain and hold a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence
- Ability to attain Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)
We’d also love you to have:
- Previous pilotage experience in a similar port operational environment.
- Previous ship handling experience relating to vessel types and sizes trading at the Ports.
- Experience working with ship’s bridge teams.
- A thorough understanding and ability to apply risk management techniques.
- Ability to analyse problems, formulate suitable solutions, and make rational decisions.
- Proficient in the use of technology relating to Marine Pilotage.
