Job Description:

What’s the role?

Shell Energy Australia (SEAu) is where gas, power, environmental products, renewables and energy solutions all come together, and is home to Shell’s Gas and Power trading businesses.

The key purpose of the Market Risk Analyst is to analyse and deliver daily monitoring and reporting on the Front Office short term and long-term trading activity, operating daily Middle Office (“MO”) controls, and daily P&L and Position results.

 You will work as part of a team engaging with stakeholders across Front, Middle and Back Office to provide insights and advice on trading activities and risks, based on report analysis outcomes, knowledge and expertise of Market Risk methodologies and trading strategies.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Daily operating of the SEAu MO process including:

    • running key controls,

    • analyzing P&L and Position results to understand and explain the drivers and accuracy of day-on-day movements,

    • liaising with the Front Office to fix issues as they arise,

    • monitoring daily trades are within limits and validating against trade documents.

  • Supporting the development of the MO function through ongoing project work.

What we need from you:

The successful candidate will be tertiary qualified (Finance, Commerce or Risk Management) and possess in depth knowledge and experience in all areas of trading and Risk valuation techniques (preferably with specific experience in Power and Gas trading).

Ideally, we are looking for someone with an inquisitive mindset, and the ability to apply strategic and lateral thinking to the dynamics of trading strategies and communicate effectively across multiple stakeholders and teams.
