Position: Meat Inspector
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $70,000 to $80,000 plus superannuation per annum
Location: Werribee VIC 3030
Our client is seeking a full-time Meat Inspector. This position requires a committed individual who is passionate about public health and safety, possesses a strong ethical foundation, and is dedicated to ensuring that meat products meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
Tasks required include:
- Conduct thorough inspections of animals before and after slaughter to detect diseases and ensure the meat is fit for human consumption.
- Monitor slaughtering and processing practices to ensure compliance with government regulations and standards for hygiene, safety, and quality.
- Collect and analyze samples of meat and meat products for signs of disease, contamination, or spoilage.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, and actions taken; report any violations of regulations to appropriate authorities.
- Provide guidance and advice to slaughterhouse and processing plant staff on proper sanitation practices and preventive measures to ensure meat safety.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, public health officials, and other stakeholders to discuss inspection findings and implement improvements.
- Stay updated on new regulations, technologies, and methods in meat inspection and food safety.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in meat inspection and related areas.
- Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in relevant field
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) of relevant work experience
- Certification or licensing as a Meat Inspector or in food safety inspection, as required by local or national regulations.
- Previous experience in meat inspection, veterinary services, or a related field is highly advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify health risks and compliance issues.
- Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of work under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with industry stakeholders and report findings.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards related to meat inspection and food safety.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various conditions, including cold environments and standing for extended periods.
