Luerssen Australia was established in 2018 to commence construction of 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Royal Australian Navy over a 12 year period. We work closely with our customer and stakeholders to deliver excellence in service.
The Role
Reporting to the Set to Work Lead, the Mechanical Commissioning Technician is primarily involved in the commissioning of the Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) in the form of Set to Work, Harbour Acceptance Trials and Sea Acceptance Trials working closely alongside sub-contractors and vendors.
Other duties of the role involve pre-test activities such as pipe testing and flushing, pre-delivery maintenance, operation of equipment and supporting post-delivery warranty periods.
Responsibilities
- Provide input into the creation of commissioning documentation, including Set to Work (STW) coordination checklist and Risk Assessments.
- Supports the isolation process and verifications following re-energisation.
- Works closely with all LFS (Luerssen Furnished Suppliers) and OEMs during the commissioning phase to learn and gain experience.
- Conducts where applicable all PMX (Planned Maintenance) activities, pre and post STW.
- Conducts operation of equipment once commissioned as necessary to support activities.
- Liaises with Engineering and Production teams to achieve desirable outcomes.
- Fosters the knowhow transfer (Luerssen Build Philosophy) from FLW-Germany to Australia.
- Assist with the continuous improvement of processes developed from lessons learnt.
- Liaises with DNV GL's classification surveyor and adapts a strong relationship with customer representatives (ASG/NCB/Navy).
- Ensures all reporting mechanisms are conducted to management.
- Interacts with and supports the STW lead on all levels.
- Supports warranty issues/defects pre and post-delivery of the vessels.
- Ability to travel regular to Adelaide to support OPV 1 and partially for OPV 2 to learn and gain experience on all STW activities.
- Supports the Verification &Validation team in performing HATs and SATs.
- Conduct all pipe testing and flushing on the vessel, maintaining databases and reporting.
- Perform other general duties that may be necessary to suit operational requirements as directed.
Requirements
- Mechanical Trade Qualification.
- Post trade qualifications highly regarded e.g.Technical Diploma
- 5 + years experience as a Marine Technician
- In depth knowledge STW, HATs and SATs, operation and maintenance of marine systems.
- HVAC, Platform, Auxiliary and Propulsion system knowledge is preferred.
- Interaction of QM/QC/QA personnel (internal, class and/or customer)
- Experience in the use of test equipment and interpretation of results.
- Ability to work in a team environment or autonomously.
- Basic knowledge of the MS-office environment
- Experience in Pipe testing and flushing.
- Ability to work in a team environment or autonomously.
- Experience gained within a Defence or shipbuilding environment - desirable
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- An ability to think laterally with problem solving ability
- Well-developed skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to self-manage and work to tight deadlines
