The Opportunity
This is an enterprise-wide engineering role, ideally to be placed in Melbourne, but we are flexible.
Reporting to and working closely with our Principal Boiler and Pressure Parts Engineer, you will develop life asset management strategies and plans that ensure optimal plant performance, operational and financial targets are met, with a particular focus initially around boiler and Pressure Parts across our larger baseload and intermediate-load power stations, Australia-wide.
Role Accountabilities
As our Mechanical Engineer/Senior Mechanical Engineer (Boilers and Pressure Parts) you will be responsible for the following asset management related activities:
- Monitor boiler performance and investigate performance issues, make plans, including sourcing of funding to rectify the loss of efficiency.
- Ensure the application of Australian Standards are applied at all times to the Boilers and associated risk controls are in place.
- Coordinate pressure vessel compliance work and steam mains, undertake major investigation and life assessment of Pressure Parts and maintain appropriate registers that meet legislation requirements.
- Coordinate the development of proposals, approval, design, installation and commissioning of new, modified and refurbished boiler plant and equipment, delivering the assigned engineering projects to budget, within agreed timeframes and to an agreed quality standard conforming to internal approval processes.
- Undertake assessment of inspection results to determine the fitness for service of plant and equipment in accordance with Australian Standards and WHS standards.
- Following outages and project work, develop and implement commissioning plans for the return to service of plant.
What skills and experience are we seeking?
- CPEng qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification and/or experience
- Demonstrated experience in a heavy industry environment with water/ steam cycles , coupled with experience with Pressure Parts/vessels such as pipework, valves, and heat exchangers
- Extensive knowledge of design, plant, systems, metallurgical and operating, planning and maintenance methods used thermal power stations or heavy industry
- Substantial knowledge of power station plant life limiting factors and experience in setting frameworks to strategically manage plant operations to optimal levels
- Substantial knowledge of design, plant, systems and operating, planning and maintenance methods used thermal power stations or heavy industry
- Ability to innovate and analyse highly complex data sets, make informed judgements and interpret technical information for others
