The OpportunityNoosa Council is seeking a qualified and experienced journalist or public relations professional to job share in the position of Media and Communications Officer.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for the effective development and implementation of external and internal communications activities, material and collateral to generate and promote awareness of Council’s strategic objectives.
Furthermore, the incumbent will work closely with local, regional and national media to manage and respond on Council issues and projects.

To undertake this position, you will have proven substantial experience in a public relations or journalism role with a sound understanding of the daily operations of media.
You will have demonstrated writing and editing skills in preparing communication collateral including media release, briefing notes and speeches.
Furthermore, but not limited to, the successful incumbent will have strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
The position's focus will be:
- Work with internal stakeholders to identify and develop corporate communication, Media and public relations initiatives and activities that contribute positively to the reputation of Council and are consistent with the corporate plan.
- Identify potential Media and communication issues and reputational risks and develop suitable strategies to manage and respond to them.
- Assist in responding to media enquiries by developing appropriate responses in line with Council’s Media Guidelines.
- Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with local, regional and inter-state Media and maintain an updated media contact list for Council.
- Collate and edit Council regular e-Newsletter in liaison with communications and engagement staff.
- Provide creative copy across a broad range of Media and communication tools to support corporate communication activities. This will include, but not limited to:
- advertising campaigns
- media releases
- journal articles
- speech notes
- presentations
- Council publications
- Review, edit and provide advice on corporate documents to ensure a consistent standard across brand, tone and language.
- Provide suitable video and social media content, as required, for Council’s different communication channels.
- Support the Disaster Management Centre in the coordination of online and mainstream media during natural disasters.
- Such other relevant duties as required from time to time which would generally fall within the scope of this position.
