ABOUT THE BRANCH, SECTION AND TEAM
The Communications Branch, provides strategic communications advice and services for internal and external audiences, manages media related functions and coordinates corporate events. It also provides web services including maintaining www.finance.gov.au, Ministerial websites and the Finance intranet.
The Media team, within the Corporate Engagement Section, is responsible for delivering high-quality communication and media advice, materials and events that achieve branch and departmental outcomes, and connect and inform staff and Ministerial offices.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a self-motivated team player with proven Media and communication skills, to lead the media function within the department.
We need someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, working to tight timeframes and is outcome focussed. You will be great at building and maintaining strong internal and external working relationships, have an eye for detail, and be able to apply sound judgement and seize opportunities presented by change.
This position plays a key role, working in collaboration with other managers in the Corporate Engagement section, in engaging our own staff and external audiences through a range of communication tools and channels, including intranet updates and corporate events.
The successful candidate will directly manage one staff member and will have the ability to identify and lead innovation and continuous improvement in the broader section.
As the Media and Engagement Manager you will be responsible for:
- communication and media strategy
- media enquiries
- media monitoring through the Streem platform
- social media
- stakeholder engagement.
Responding to time-sensitive media enquiries, this role does require some work outside of normal hours and is compensated accordingly.

All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
- This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing. Roles may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing subject to operational requirements. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for a specified term of up to 12 months. Specified term vacancies may be extended up to a maximum period of 18 months.
