A great opportunity exists for a self starter with some IHC experience to work in a very busy IHC referral laboratory at Westmead Hospital.
You'll be working in a small and dynamic IHC team performing IHC and FISH tests for private and public patients across NSW. As part of the larger Tissue Pathology team at ICPMR Westmead, you'll have the opportunity to work collaboratively with Pathologists, experienced Scientists and Technical Officers and make a big difference to patients and clinicians.

What you'll be doing

Responsible for performing high quality and timely IHC and FISH testing in a large referral hospital using manual and automated methods as part of a collaborative team of Scientists and Technical Officers.

  1. Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Techniques or an equivalent qualification with subjects relevant to Anatomical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry from a recognised tertiary institution.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of diagnostic pathology services relevant to Anatomical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry, Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite.
  3. Demonstrated, broad experience in Immunohistochemistry including but not limited to the use of RTU and Ab concentrates, operation and maintenance of IHC instruments.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations and contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory.
  5. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
  6. Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
  7. Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
  8. Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand NSW Health Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases. All recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. All recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

All NSW Health workers are required to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as defined by NSW Health. Employees working in a clinical area or are required to attend clinical areas are considered category A. Category A positions are required to provide evidence of having received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (TGA) and meet the requirements of the Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
