About the Position
CDU is the only Northern Territory (NT) based university and as a place-based regional university it is deeply embedded in our local communities and is planning to deliver a new Medical Program in 2025 that is tailored specifically to the needs of our local community. The purpose is to establish a Medical Program at CDU to graduate and retain more First Nations and local resident doctors in the NT to serve the NT community. The admissions process positively selects for NT First Nations and NT resident students knowing that students drawn from local communities are more likely to remain in those communities when they graduate.

As the Medical Program First Nations Lead, you will support the commitment to embed cultural competence, diversity, and inclusion within the Medical Program at CDU and to be a program of first choice for First Nations staff and students. You will provide leadership within the Medical Program, developing and maintaining meaningful partnerships with NT Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and developing, implementing, and overseeing initiatives that ensure medical students and faculty are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality healthcare to First Nations communities, while respecting and valuing their unique cultural and health needs.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., Medicine, Indigenous Studies, Public Health) or equivalent industry experience in a relevant discipline and a distinguished record in an area relevant to the portfolio
  • Proven expertise in First Nations culture, health, and community engagement.
  • Experience in medical education, curriculum development, or related fields.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with First Nations communities.
  • Understanding of healthcare disparities facing First Nations communities.
  • Knowledge of cultural sensitivity and competence in medical practice.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
