Applications are invited from suitably qualified consultant physicians (any specialty) to provide clinical care to acutely unwell patients in the Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic (SURC) as well as more broadly across Ambulatory Services at Peter Mac. This is an ongoing position working 1 day per week however a 0.5 day per week role may be considered.SURC has been operating at Peter Mac since September 2021 as a 2 chair model (but may be able to accommodate more than 2 patients at a time) and receives referrals from tumour stream clinical teams and other care providers on patients needing immediate assessment, investigations and management.You will work alongside a SURC Clinical Nurse Consultant to provide professional high quality patient centred care to patients. Virtual care consultations with outreach to other areas of Ambulatory Services, throughout Peter Mac and the Royal Melbourne Hospital ED may be required.In addition, you will be asked to support nursing and junior medical staff in the Ambulatory Services to help manage unplanned unwell patients, as required.Please find attached the position description for further details on this role.   • SURC Clinical Nurse Specialist / Nurse Practitioner and other SURC Nursing staff

EducationSkillsEssential Requirements
  • Medical Qualifications suitable for Specialist national registration by the Medical Boards of Victoria (AHPRA)
  • Post graduate qualifications in internal medicine (FRACP) and medical oncology/ haematology / palliative care/ general medicine or other appropriate subspeciality OR qualifications in emergency medicine (FACEM)
  • Appropriate clinical experience post higher qualification
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in management of patients with cancer
  • Experience in participating in clinical research
  • Experience in medical education at undergraduate and post graduate levels

1. Provides high quality patient care using an evidence based, cost effective approach
  • Attends and is based in SURC for entire duration scheduled
  • Receives, triages and manages referrals of ambulatory unwell patients
  • Undertakes and facilitates growth of Virtual Care
  • Participates in an outreach service as required to support Ambulatory Services, ED and other health service partners.
  • Contributes to continuous review and improvement in quality processes and protocols
  • Oversees ongoing revision of Treatment Policy Guidelines for relevant clinical services
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
  • Participates in Institute Quality Assurance Activities Maximises patient related revenue
2. Provides intellectual leadership
  • Contributes to clinical, translational and/or laboratory research that meets the Institute's needs
  • Manages research activities according to relevant Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and Institute policies and procedures
3. Supervises and trains registrars, residents, medical students, nursing and allied health staff and participates in other educational activities
  • Provides appropriate educational support to registrars, residents and nursing staff, providing supervision and mentorship as required
  • Participates in hospital wide educational programs, including affiliated organisation's programs
  • Completes all required mandatory learning
  • Participates in resident, nurse and allied health education programs
4. Promotes the interests of the Centre
  • Contributes to relevant professional organisations
  • Expertise is recognised locally, nationally and internationally Contributes to PMCC goals by developing and achieving unit and divisional goals
