Salary: $88,371 - $94,758 p.a. + 11% superannuation contribution

About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.
About the Opportunity
The Men’s Wellbeing Worker works as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of primary health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander men residing in Cape York. The position will undertake ongoing practical and theoretical professional development with focus on social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, alcohol and other drugs and family violence.
The role also contributes to identify, develop and implement local men’s program to improve health and wellbeing.
This is a FIFO position from Cairns. A typical week involves flying from Cairns on Monday morning and returning to Cairns on Friday. You will be provided with accommodation and a travel allowance as a FIFO employee.
Pre-employment screening for vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases will be conducted for the successful applicant.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Certificate IV in Community Services, Certificate IV in Indigenous Mental Health (Suicide Prevention) or Certificate IV in Mental Health
- A minimum of two years’ experience as a social and community worker
- Experience providing individual support
- Experience developing, implementing and reviewing education and awareness activities and programs based on client group needs
- Well-developed written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to liaise with service providers, maintain client data and records including preparation of reports
- Demonstrated knowledge of the case management process and the ability to undertake assessments, develop, monitor and review case plans
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence
- Current Blue Card (Working with Children Card) positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
