Employment type: Ongoing

A career in the forensic Mental Health sector is diverse, challenging, and rewarding. If you're passionate about supporting people in their Mental Health recovery, Ballarat Community Health is where you need to be. You will be a part of a caring and supportive team, making a real difference to people living with the dual stigma of mental illness and offending. We approach our work with curiosity and a commitment to understanding the unique needs of our clients and carers. Together, we can contribute to a more connected, compassionate Mental Health and criminal justice system.
About the role
Our Forensic Mental Health in Community Health (FMHiCH) program, was developed to provide support to offenders to successfully complete their Community Corrections Order (CCO), by addressing their Mental Health concerns.
The Mental Health Clinician will be the first contact with new clients, to engage them in our FMHiCH program. This first contact is vital in building rapport with clients who may have experienced significant trauma and have multiple, often complex needs. You will provide a broad range of expertise, to aid across a wide spectrum of disorders, including a focus on criminogenic needs, and complex risk profiles.
Why this work is important
This is a uniquely rewarding role in service of the community. As the Mental Health Clinician you will instrumentally contribute to helping individuals on a community based disposition, such as a Community Corrections Order or on parole, with improved mental and physical health, support their compliance, and assist them to successfully complete their order or parole. This is all part of reducing recidivism and their contact with the criminal justice system.
What you will bring to the team:
About you:
- Relevant registration and qualifications (see Position Description for details)
- Experience in providing clinical Mental Health assessment, and formulating a provisional diagnosis, including risk assessments, developing appropriate interventions and treatment planning
- Experience working in an environment with a focus on clients with complex needs
- No previous experience in the forensic field is necessary, but you must have a passion for clients from vulnerable backgrounds, with complex needs.
Applications are sought from people with backgrounds in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Nursing.
