Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.
We work to address the social determinants of health including the broader issues that affect our people's health, through evidence-based research and public advocacy. We also work to empower individuals, families, and communities to optimise their health.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Mental Health Nurse is responsible for providing high quality Mental Health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with complex Mental Health conditions. This position will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including general practitioners (GPs), psychiatrists and allied health staff to facilitate the provision of coordinated clinical care and treatment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Deliver high level, evidence based Mental Health service to our clients with mental illness, to reduce and prevent repeated admissions to hospitals, and to reduce length of stay in hospitals where admission has occurred.
- Apply professional judgement to a complex caseload and contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols.
- Conduct comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in accordance with best practice and clinical guidelines, ensuring collaboration with clients and the multidisciplinary team to achieve health goals and outcomes
- Provide culturally appropriate interventions (including assessment, therapy, and case management) to individuals and groups.
- Ensure the development of Mental Health Care Plans for clients and facilitate the provision of co-ordinated clinical care and treatment for referred clients.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Current registration as a Nurse with AHPRA.
- Post graduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing.
- Demonstrated experience in Mental Health assessment and treatment methods.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Adaptability and flexibility to changing work environments and requirements.
- The ability to demonstrate cultural understanding and sensitivity of our clients and be able to translate that to on-the-job application.
- Ability to maintain clear clinical documentation and comply with confidentiality.
- Demonstrated computer skills and the ability to use clinical practice software relevant to the role.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the relevant legislation guiding clinical practice for this position.

- Current CPR certificate or the preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
