The opportunity

Are you ready to lead the charge in Mental Health Research on the Melbourne Children's Campus? This exciting opportunity involves spearheading the implementation of a visionary Mental Health Research agenda, uniting expertise across the campus to address critical research questions aligned with strategic priorities. As the Mental Health Research Lead, you'll collaborate with a diverse governance team to drive the implementation and evaluation of the Campus Mental Health Strategy 2021 - 2025, generously funded by The RCH Foundation.

This role is offered on 2 year part time contract at 0.6 FTE (22.8 hours per week).

The Melbourne Children's Campus and its partners are dedicated to the Campus Mental Health Strategy 2021 - 2025. Our overarching goal is to provide evidence-based, comprehensive Mental Health care and prevention for infants, children, and adolescents, supported by education and research, ensuring optimal outcomes for families. Child and family-centered care is central to our mission, with clinically driven research informing workforce education and training programs. This, in turn, supports evidence-based, consistent care delivery and proactive advocacy for policy and funding.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading the implementation of the Campus Mental Health Strategy Key Area 3: Research including leading a Campus Mental Health Research Group that has developed a cohesive, Campus-wide Mental Health Research Strategy that prioritises the generation, conduct and implementation of high-quality Mental Health Research relevant to The RCH patients and their families.
  • Working effectively as a senior member of the Campus Mental Health Strategy Implementation Team and help to foster engagement and relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting development and expansion of the Campus Mental Health Research workforce, by providing high quality mentorship and supervision to emerging Mental Health Researchers.
  • Coordinating Mental Health Translation Forums in partnership with the Clinical Implementation Leads, bringing together researchers and clinicians to conduct high quality clinically relevant research that informs education and training and practice.

What we need from you:

  • Relevant PhD/Doctoral qualification and track record in child Mental Health Research or a closely related field (e.g. public health, nursing) and at least 5 years postdoctoral experience (relative to opportunity
  • Recognition as an established or emerging Mental Health Researcher, with expertise in implementing new models of care/ approaches into clinical care and practice.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging, developing collaborative relationships, and working in partnership with diverse stakeholders.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with an innovative, can-do attitude, independent judgement and influencing skills
