The Opportunity

With an opportunity to be based in NSW, VIC or QLD this is your opportunity to work with our Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) Division, Australia’s largest and only national ANP!

As a First Nations Mentor in the Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) Division of MEGT, you will provide exceptional mentoring, practical and pastoral care to our apprentices and trainees nationally who may have challenging circumstances to overcome with the aim of improving completion rates.

This role will see you utilise your networking capabilities and have you building relationships and actively collaborating with First Nations key stakeholders, community Elders, and become part of the referral networks that operate in First Nations communities as well as partner with employers, TAFE, Department of Education Skills and Employment and various other stakeholders to deliver an exceptional mentoring service. 

This dynamic First Nations Mentor role is highly rewarding and involves a holistic, empathetic, and proactive approach as you guide your clients to persevere through obstacles and help them achieve their career goals. 

Some of the diverse duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop and foster on going relationship development with the First Nations and Elder community.
  • Manage a caseload of First Nations and Non-Indigenous Apprentices across Australia, establish connections and utilise local/state/national organisations to assist with addressing barriers to completion.
  • Partner with Apprentices, host employers and their support network to provide ongoing training and coaching.
  • Undertake risk assessments, identify barriers, and create case management plans to address barriers.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with policies and procedures applicable to the program.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed In-training information and file notes.
  • Complete status reports and reports on statistics
  • Please note as this is a national role, interstate travel may be required at times.

To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people:

a) of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and

 b) who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; and

c) who are accepted by their community as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Successful applicants are required to provide a Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent form executed by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation with a common seal or other relevant documents.

About you

You will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and have demonstrated the ability to engage, respect and support those of a Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal social backgrounds with a strong focus on youth, In a similar mentoring or guidance role with significant call volumes and administration experience.

  • Previous experience fostering positive relationships with various external stakeholders, including apprentices, employers, and parents/guardians with the addition of First Nation stakeholders, community elders, and First Nations communities, and appropriate support services.
  • Excellent communication and administration skills.
  • Previous experience in working with Indigenous People, youth/social work or relevant fields.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret and assess information.
  • Hold a relevant qualification or be actively working towards a certificate IV in Community Services, Youth Work or equivalent.
  • Current Drivers licence
