The Merchandise manager role is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies that provide appropriate community ranging and affordability, whilst maintaining commercial viability. This role has a shared responsibility in the achievement of social and food security outcomes. This role is accountable for building and motivating a high-performance team through effective leadership, while maintaining a high level of compliance on safety and operational procedures and policy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Effectively lead and manage the Merchandise team to maintain and enhance efficiencies and compliance, whilst ensuring that the procurement and allocation of inventory is in line with Outback Store’s Pricing Policy and relevant agreements.
Act as the single commercial interface towards suppliers and always represent the Company’s best interests.
Develop commercial contracts for suppliers ensuring quality control, locked down ranges and optimisation of promotional income opportunities.
Monitor and review commercial prices and negotiate new prices as required.
Implement risk management strategies to secure and maintain supply of core products.
Effectively maintain feedback processes and corrective action plans for product quality issues.
Provide specialist, technical advice, and guidance to business areas in relation to all procurement activities and ensure that procurement activities are conducted in line with governance, probity, and legislative requirements.
Attend aligned community stores to understand and identify business critical issues to ensure the alignment of pricing policy and strategies.
Proactively manage and review the performance and progress of the Merchandise team objectives and targets.
Ensure timely and effective communications across the business units for relevant matters.
Accountable for the Merchandise budget.
Lead the development of innovative and cost-effective stock management initiatives.
Lead and develop strategies to ensure accountability for supplier income targets.
Develop and presents a range of financial/non-financial reports for senior and Executive management and Board on a quarterly basis

Desired Qualifications
Tertiary degree in Business, Commerce, or equivalent experience in key account and/or category management.
Current driver’s license.
Hold (or able to obtain) Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate.
Expertise
Minimum five plus years’ experience of category management within a retail environment.
Proven understanding of working with a complex and challenging environment with applied flexibility to adapt to changing retail environment.
Knowledge of remote communities and challenges associated.
Proven understanding of core merchandising fundamentals is essential.
Proven experience in relaying Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) is essential.
Demonstrated ability to write high-quality reports and other communication for a variety of audiences.
Professional judgement based on experience that balances the brand with commercial opportunities.
Strong financial, business, and numeric understanding including Profit & Loss and budget management.
