Job description

Job Requisition ID: 34760

  • Receive unparalleled professional development through our year-round graduate learning academy
  • Be part of Australia’s largest cohort of graduates – meaning you’ll have a community of other grads to lean on and learn from!
  • Build your skills on real client work and purpose-led projects

Now, more than ever, our world needs a new perspective. Tomorrow won’t be powered by yesterday’s ideas. It requires bright minds, bold ambition and boundless passion. Someone like you! Join Deloitte and help us shape a better tomorrow.

M&A is one of the major aspects of corporate finance world. Each facet of M&A has its own unique challenge and it often takes a diverse team to get the best results on a deal. Deloitte’s M&A business is one of the largest in Australia, advising top tier clients on complex merger, acquisition, divestment and capital market activities. Our team works across a range of sectors including consumer business, financial services, infrastructure, technology, healthcare and real estate.  At Deloitte we provide support for our team to pursue relevant post graduate qualifications such as a CA or CFA designation.

What will your typical day look like?
Within M&A at Deloitte there are four interesting areas of work:

  1. Transaction Services - We work closely with our clients through the entire M&A lifecycle to deliver financial due diligence which includes analysis of accounting information, analytics on key financial/operating performance metrics, advice on transaction related accounting matters and review of sale and purchase agreements. You'll get to build your analytical and advisory skills as you support clients by providing advice based on financial analysis of key valuation drivers of a transaction. Vacationers and Graduates undertake analysis of annual and monthly financial statements to identify trends, drivers of trading performance and any one-off events. Knowledge of accounting and financial concepts, commercial and business acumen and familiarity with Microsoft Excel are highly desirable.
  2. Valuations - We help clients make informed business and investment decisions by quantifying and articulating value for transaction, financial reporting, taxation, financing, litigation and strategic management purposes. You will have the opportunity to work on large and complex business and/or fixed asset valuations where you will gather an in-depth understanding of the market, including the legal or regulatory environment, and analyse financial and qualitative information to provide insightful technical and commercial valuation advice.
  3. IP Value Advisory - We help clients commercialise intellectual property (IP), raise funds, leverage IP in M&A, develop IP strategies and meet intangible asset reporting requirements. Our IP Advisory team specialises in quantifying and optimising the value of tech, data and brands – covering fields as diverse as agritech, biotech, cleantech, fintech and miningtech. We work seamlessly with our legal and tax colleagues specialising in IP Advisory, and with Deloitte’s expanding global IP Advisory community. You will be involved in collection and analysis of diverse information sources, including financial, licensing, patent and market data, the collation and assessment of Tech Ratings (using our proprietary framework for assessing the earnings potential and risk profile of tech assets), and the development of tech and enterprise valuation models.
  4. Consulting Services – We help Corporate and Private Equity clients maximise the benefits and maintain business and operational continuity when making acquisitions or divestments. Specifically, we support our clients throughout the M&A lifecycle by helping define their M&A strategy, performing commercial due diligence of the market in which a target operates, assessing potential merger synergies or standalone operations of businesses, and providing acquisition integration or divestment separation support. A day in the life of an M&A Consulting Services graduate will be diverse and varied! You could be partnering with functional leads to develop and project manage integration or separation plans, blueprinting a target operating model, hosting a client workshop, modelling potential synergies or the standalone cost base of a business, or analysing potential new markets for our clients to expand into.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.
You are someone with:

  • Endless curiosity and a constant hunger to learn new skills
  • An ability to think both creatively and analytically
  • Attention to detail
  • A love for working with people and have good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Australian permanent residency or Australian/New Zealand Citizenship
