About the Organisation 

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. About the Role

Port Phillip Libraries are seeking a passionate and experienced Metadata and Discovery Librarian to join our libraries team to provide expertise in the description and discoverability of our library collections, information resources, services and programs. 

You will work with our suppliers to ensure shelf-ready items meet the agreed standards and contribute to service improvement and staff training. As a member of our Collections Team you will also be cross trained to support acquisitions, serials and collection development work.

Duties:
  • Create and maintain bibliographic records and authority records and enhance access to digital collections.
  • Provide expert advice and contribute to the enhanced discoverability of collections including Heritage and Library of Things as well as the discoverability of digital resources.
  • Liaise with suppliers to develop and maintain technical specifications for shelf-ready services including effective and efficient quality assurance workflows.
  • Train and support staff and create procedural documentation relating to Metadata and end processing workflows.
  • Act as shift supervisor during rostered customer service shifts. 
Skills and Experience: 
  • Knowledge and experience working with metadata standards including DDC, RDA, LCSH, MARC.
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a shelf-ready cataloguing environment and ensuring appropriate standards are maintained.
  • Ability to learn and apply metadata standards in a range of formats to enhance the discoverability.
  • A thorough understanding of the relevant technology, procedures and processes used within their operating unit including library management systems and RFID technology.
