J&S Engineering and Maintenance is a family-owned heavy manufacturing business with over 30 years of experience delivering premium quality components and repairs to the Hunter region mining sector. With a pipe line of exciting projects, J&S are currently seeking a motivated Metal Blaster / Trades assistant to join the team.
J&S is a tier 1 service provider to the mining sector and this means that our personnel get to undertake a diverse range of unique, challenging, and fulfilling projects. This is a great opportunity to grow valuable skills and knowledge across multiple processes within a very well-equipped ISO9001 workshop.
As part of a small team, you will report to the shift leading hand and workshop manager. Work a five-day, 38 hour base week with regular opportunities for overtime.
Typical day-to-day tasks will include:
- Operate abrasive blasting equipment to clean and prepare metal surfaces for finishing.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed during blasting operations.
- Assist tradespeople with tasks such as painting and assembly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and equipment.
- Adhere to project timelines and quality standards.
- Maintaining in process documentation including: accurately tracking timecard hours, job related reporting and maintaining safety and quality compliance documents.
To be successful in the role, candidates must have:
- Previous experience in metal blasting and surface preparation preferred
- Knowledge of abrasive blasting techniques, equipment, and materials preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Positive attitude to safety.
- Good work ethic.
