Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist the key objective of the Metallurgist Technician role is to ensure plant sampling and overall test works in the laboratory are actioned with efficiency and integrity that will reflect the plant performance and production on this new processing plant on the Core Finniss Lithium project located near Darwin, NT. This is a Darwin residential role working 7 days on / 7 days off. Primero has relocation options available for suitable candidates.
Specific to this role, you will:
* Assist operations team in the day-to day sampling around the plant and managing sample submissions from the Operation team
* Liaise with the Assay laboratory for any sample issues before escalation to the Plant Metallurgist.
* Perform laboratory test works with guidance from the Plant metallurgist - sample preparation, reagent strength determination, LST test work, particle size analysis, settling tests, etc.
* Conduct pre-starts and inspections in all the laboratory equipment and ensure safe and clean work space inside the Met Lab.
* Assist in the calibration of plant gauges and instrument i.e. density gauges, weightometer, load cells, etc. as needed.
* Assist and perform in plant operation roles with proper guidance and training as needed.
* Provide support in the accomplishment of the daily reports as needed.
* Undertake and maintain individual HSE KPI’s outlined for the role.
ABOUT YOU
* Reside locally in Darwin
* Hold a Diploma in Metallurgy or Process Engineering is advantageous.
* Have at least two (2) years’ experience in laboratory environment and operation.
* Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with high attention to detail.
* Able to work effectively within set timeline.
* Be flexible and resourceful to cope with plant operation changes and inherent fluctuation in the workload of the role.
* Provide assistance, as needed or directed, to the Plant Metallurgist in test works and metal accounting.
* Hold a current Manual C driver’s licence.
* Promote a safety-first culture at all times.
* Have excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Possess the ability to foster internal and external stakeholder relationships.
