About this part of our organisation:

Our Zinc Assets in Australia include multiple & geographically dispersed operations, including concentrators, refineries and smelters, as well as underground and open pit mines, and port facilities. Additionally, we have operations across Asia, the Americas and Europe if that is where you want your career to take you.

Our McArthur River Mine (MRM) is world class producer of zinc, lead and bulk concentrates with a long future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, 900 km southeast of Darwin and 65 km from Borroloola, we transport our zinc and bulk concentrate to the Bing Bong port facility and shipped to customers all over the world. Given the location of our operation you will fly in from Darwin on a 5/2 & 4/3 roster, or if based interstate a 9/5 roster may be considered.

About your potential new position:

It’s an exciting time at McArthur River Mine, and this position is as pivotal as it is technically challenging. Using IsaMill technology we manage to process micro fine material maximising yield and PBOX to separate differing materials you will be working with industry best innovation.

Whilst we expect you to bring expertise with you, your experiences here with the innovation and projects we are implementing will take you to the next level of your career.  

Ultimately your objective is to ensure the effective operation of the plant’s metallurgical and process control systems to achieve planned product quantity and quality.

Accordingly your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving safety culture, performance and practices through your team and MRM workforce.
  • Providing development, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to your team, constantly enhancing their ability to do their jobs and grow into future leaders.
  • Monitoring the performance of plant metallurgical and process control systems and initiating remedial action as required.
  • Coordinating implementation of new process systems and equipment, and upgrades to existing systems and working closely with the projects group.
  • Identification of key value drivers, risks, and mitigation strategies across the plant.
  • Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the in-house metallurgical laboratory.

This is a critical role with the ability to have a significant impact on our business.

To deliver on expectations, you will have:

  • Degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Process engineering or metallurgy or electrical engineering or related discipline.
  • Excellent non-technical skills such as leadership, communication, stakeholder management and presenting to senior leadership.
  • Solid metallurgical accounting and a willingness to be involved with the financial side of the business such as budgets
  • An in-depth knowledge and hands on experience of minerals processing
  • The experience to proactively identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, implement best practice and, at times, innovative solutions.
