Our valued client, Woodside, are currently looking for a Metocean Engineer to join their Perth CBD team.Job DetailsProvide meteorological and oceanographic (metocean) expertise in the Geotechnical & Metocean Team for works undertaken on behalf of Australian and International Operations, Exploration & Development, Global Wells & Seismic, New Energy, Australian and International Projects, and Technical Services business units within Woodside Energy.The Metocean Engineer is part of a multi-disciplinary team and reports to the Geotechnical and Metocean Team Lead in Operations Support.The engineer will interface and work collaboratively with a number of internal and contractor stakeholders across Assets, Projects and New Energy opportunities.Duties & Responsibilities:- Co-ordinate internal and external Metocean Engineering activities and the interdisciplinary interfaces, in close liaison with Team Lead.
- Communicate across Woodside Energy to ensure that objectives are met.
- Ensure that all activities and studies are carried out within the framework of the Woodside Management System.
- Prepare cost, time and resources (CTR) for studies and seek budget approval.
- Support cost management and control activities and project reporting.
- Prepare metocean deliverables including Scopes of Work; Project Execution Plans, Assurance Plans, Basis of Design documents, Metocean Engineering Datasheets.
- Develop and maintain strong contractor relationships, including acting as Company Representative and occasional on-site representation during metocean surveys.
- Lead scopes of internal metocean analysis work.
- Liaise with Technical Authorities (TA) and Technical Integrity Custodians (TIC) to assure metocean deliverables.
- Apply “Safety in Design” principles in the development of Metocean Engineering solutions.
- Support Team Lead with internal and external design reviews.
- Apply and maintain Metocean standards and guidelines for use in Woodside projects.
- Guide metocean technology innovation for the benefit of Woodside.Skills & Experience:- Higher degree in meteorology, oceanography, environmental engineering or a related discipline.
- CPEng (or equivalent) accreditation desirable.
- Minimum 10 years Metocean experience, preferably in the (international) oil and gas or renewables industry.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant national and international industry codes, standards and guidelines.
- Have a broad understanding of metocean risk management, engineering design and analysis from Concept Select to Abandonment.
- Experience in interaction with other engineering disciplines / external contractors / professional bodies within the energy industry.
- Self-sufficient, proactive and able to communicate with a range of stakeholders, particularly to non-specialists.
- Adept at problem solving with ingenuity.
- Skills, knowledge and experience in several of the following areas:
- Meteorology and weather forecasting services
- Wind and wave modelling for forecasting, hindcasting and generating synthetic databases for environmental criteria development.
- Hydrodynamic modelling for ocean forecasting, hindcasting and generating synthetic databases for environmental criteria development.
- Derivation of environmental design criteria and operating statistics using industry standard and 'state of the art' techniques.
- Floating systems and response-based analysis.
- Data science techniques and machine learning application to environmental datasets.
- MATLAB or Python scripting skills advantageous.
