Position vacant – Mid-level to Senior Ecologist – North Wollongong or Southern Highlands

Lodge Environmental is an established and rapidly growing Ecological Consultancy. Our head office is located in Wollongong with a second office in Bowral. We are on the hunt for a mid-level to Senior Ecologist. We pride ourselves on our enjoyable work atmosphere that fosters the growth of our staff and encourages intuitive, solution driven decision making.

You will be working with an enthusiastic team of ecologists and environmental consultants to coordinate and deliver on field survey and reporting across our range of interesting projects within the Illawarra, Southern Highlands, and Shoalhaven. You will be passionate about the environment and our community’s interaction within it. You will be working collaboratively with a tightknit team to implement environmental creativity into job designs. About you

As a mid-level to Senior Ecologist, you will be expected to manage projects and work as part of a team, generally taking on more complex tasks. Tasks will include, conducting field surveys, flora &fauna I.D., GIS mapping, data input & analysis, report writing and communicating with internal & external stakeholders. More experienced applicants will be expected to deliver work independently, with more focus being placed on technical skills, such as, survey techniques, legislative understanding, management of project teams and reporting quality.

It is within this that we lead our clients towards a better outcome on all accounts.

Education and qualifications

  • Either hold a recognised degree in Environmental Science OR other relevant tertiary education(Tafe or similar).
  • Have 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Hold a ‘class c’ drivers license.
  • Competent to advanced flora and fauna identification in the vegetation communities of NSW.
  • To be eligible you must have the right to work in Australia.

Key tasks

  • Lead field surveys including – stratification of plant community types, flora and fauna survey, targeted threatened species survey, and completion of vegetation integrity plots.
  • Managing projects, budgets, teams and the expectations of clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead a team and delegate tasks, while focusing on the more complex components of projects.
  • Prepare and review proposals.
  • Prepare invoices and meet monthly invoicing targets.
  • Undertake GIS mapping, field-based survey and data analysis.
  • Sound understanding of environmental legislation: BC Act, EPBC Act, WM Act, EP&A Act, BOS, BAM, etc.
  • Offsetting skills such as experience with TFD calculations, offset strategies and completing Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports.
  • An existing BAM accreditation, or the desire to became BAM accredited based on existing experience.
  • Prepare and review reports, including:
    • Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessments Reports.
    • Flora and Fauna Assessments.
    • Ecological Constraints and Opportunities Assessments.
    • Vegetation Management Plans.
    • Fauna Management Plans.
    • Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports.
  • Contribute towards the positive work environment both in and outside of the office. You will communicate effectively across both written and verbal discourse.
