Our company is a major importer, exporter and distributor of home wares, lifestyle products and more recently general merchandise items across Australia, New Zealand, and the Indo and South Pacific Island Regions. As a result of significant growth, a unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Retail / Wholesale Buyer to help develop and expand our General Merchandise Range of products for small to medium sized supermarkets and variety store chains across Australia and New Zealand with a key focus on the Indo and South Pacific Island chains.
In addition to undertaking the buying aspects of the General Merchandise Category, the successful candidate will also carry responsibility for internal sales and fulfilment and work closely with the sales team to develop new markets and customers.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the ideal applicant should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a retail or wholesale buyer of General Merchandise to supermarkets and variety stores across the Indo and South Pacific Island chains. Specifically, we require a buyer with an established network of suppliers from the Asia Pacific Region capable of supplying and consolidating low Minimum Order Quantities at competitive prices into the region.
Minimum Skills and Experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English).
- Ability to juggle multiply competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Problem solving in a fast pace hectic environment.
- Advanced MS Excel and ERP system skills.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Bachelor’s Degree (Relevant Business Field)
- Master’s degree or studying towards one (preferred)
- Second Language (Asian Language – Chinese or Hindi strongly considered)
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
