Our client, The Trustee for PSF Family Trust trading as Tyres Now Pty Ltd, has been operating at 1/800 Cooper Street, Somerton, Victoria 3061. Tyres Now prides itself on offering professional and friendly service. At its modern, well-equipped workshop, Tyres Now expertly handles the maintenance and repair of a wide range of vehicles, including cars, vans, and 4x4s, whether petrol or diesel.
The company is now looking to hire a motivated individual to join its successful team as a full-time Motor Mechanic.
The Role:
As a Motor Mechanic, it is essential to have the passion to carry out mechanical servicing duties effectively and in a timely manner. The primary role is to conduct testing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting of major faults, and to overhaul engines of motor vehicles and parts such as transmissions, suspension, steering, and brakes across a wide range of motor vehicle types.
The annual salary is $73,000 plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities:
• Discuss problems with car drivers or vehicle operators to discover faults, listen to engines, fit and operate special test equipment, and test drive vehicles to ascertain faults.
• Identify problems, determine the relationship between cause and effect, and examine information from different sources to determine the best course of action.
• Complete vehicle details on requisition orders, including kilometres, engine number, registration number, etc.
• Repair or replace worn and faulty parts by removing assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials, or steering gear; dismantle them and check parts, referring to manuals as necessary.
• Reassemble, test, clean, and adjust repaired or replaced parts or assemblies, using various instruments to ensure they are working properly, and put them back into the vehicle.
• Perform preventive maintenance, such as checking fluid levels, brake systems, steering, generating, ignition, and electrical wiring systems.
• Tune engines using special electronic equipment and make fine adjustments (e.g., to carburettor/electronic fuel injection) for smoother running.
• Diagnose, repair, and replace engine management/fuel injection components.
• Use MIG welders.
• Use electronic test equipment to locate and correct malfunctions in lighting, instrumentation, electronic fuel injection, ignition, and emissions control systems.
• Inspect vehicles for roadworthiness and/or list the work required before a certificate can be issued.
• Supervise apprentices when required.
• Maintain the appearance and presentation of the service area and ensure tools and equipment are clean and tidy at all times.
• Return specialist tools and reference materials to their designated locations.
• Ensure hazardous substances are disposed of appropriately.
• Follow occupational health and safety practices.
The Requirements:
• Must hold an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate III in Automotive.
• At least three (3) years of relevant experience in a commercial workshop setting.
• Experience working with mechanical systems.
• Skilled in mechanical tasks.
• Proficient with hand and power tools.
• Can work independently or collaboratively.
• Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
• Verifiable work references.
