Job description

ABOUT US

Catholic Mission is the Pope’s international mission agency in Australia. We partner with communities, helping them to flourish by supporting grassroots projects, including healthcare, education, and faith formation, and being an active voice for human rights. For over 100 years in Australia, and 200 years as a global network, we have provided crucial funding and project support to communities most in need across Africa and the Middle East, Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas.

THE POSITION

This position exists to uniquely support the development and implementation of Catholic Mission’s Youth Engagement strategy, with a view to connecting the diverse youth networks with our work and the mission of the global Church.  The primary purpose of this role is to:

  • Engage communities of youth, including students, and their wider networks, in the work of Catholic Mission (CM).
  • Provide support in developing ‘mission’ pathways for young people to both experience and be supported in their ‘faith-in-action’ choices. Collaborate on a strategic approach that begins with primary and secondary schools’ engagement to post-secondary and young adult engagement.
  • Support the development of partnerships that will broaden this engagement.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

We're seeking an ideal candidate who embodies the following attributes, making this opportunity truly enticing for a young, passionate individual:

  • Inspiring Mission Advocate: You understand and deeply value our mission, and your enthusiasm is infectious. You can ignite the passion of Catholic schools, students, and youth to participate in our impactful programs which enrich the lives of children, youth and families worldwide.
  • Exceptional Communicator: You know how to sell an idea because you’re passionate about what it represents. Your communication skills are exceptional, spanning various mediums. You have the power to motivate students of all ages (primary/high school to university level) to engage in our meaningful work through compelling storytelling and persuasive communication. You will have connection with youth movements, local youth networks, and culturally and linguistically diverse youth groups, engaging young people in the work of CM and the global Church, such as (but not limited to):  AYCS, AYCW and ACYMN.
  • Organisation and Event Management:  You will need to be organised, have attention to detail, be efficient, have excellent time management and good stakeholder management skills.
  • Credentials Essential: Tertiary qualifications (Masters in Education and/or Theology) are vital for success in this role. Ideally, you have prior experience (3 years) with the Catholic Education Sector or other Catholic Church ministries.  You will have exposure to and knowledge of the Philippines and its culture.
  • Mobility and Flexibility: With an Australian driver's license and a heart for the regions as well as the city, you're ready to personally connect with schools and communities across Australia. Your adaptability and energy make you a perfect fit for our dynamic work environment.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

You’ll have the chance to lead our youth strategy across Australia, based out of our North Sydney office in a caring and supportive environment with diverse, passionate, and skilled colleagues. You won’t be stuck in one place, often out visiting schools and universities, meeting new faces, attending events, and presenting at gatherings. You’ll feel supported by a small and friendly Syndey team and a wider network of colleagues around the country.

We offer above-award holiday breaks, including some freebie days over Christmas, and flexible working arrangements with hybrid work from home/office options and time-in-lieu. You’ll have access to an Employee Assistance Program and opportunities for professional development and learning to further your career.

INTERESTED? WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

To apply, send your cover letter and resume to **********@catholicmission.org.au as soon as possible as applications will be reviewed on an immediate basis. Applicants without Australian employment eligibility will not be considered.

Please note:

  • The successful applicant is subject to a National Criminal History Check and NSW Working with Children  Check.
  • Only those selected for an interview will be contacted, usually within two weeks of submitting your application.
