Our Environmental Systems Leadership Team are seeking a passionate Natural Assets Coordinator to join our team. You will be responsible for leading the high performing teams that look after the strategic planning and management of our city's Natural Assets and delivery of natural area works. This role is key in building and maintaining a culture of high service delivery and innovative solutions for our Natural Assets, taking a proactive approach to asset management.

You will support the organisational strategy through effective stakeholder engagement, collaboration, communication, evidence-based evaluation, and respond to the changing needs of the environment and the community.

Your other key focus areas include.

  • Develop and manage a program of works for the city's natural areas and ensure successful delivery of related projects and programs guided by international best practice to improve ecosystem extent and condition.
  • Contribute to Council's Community Strategic Plan, Operational Plan and departmental business plans and strategies.
  • Design, implement and evaluate programs to facilitate an improvement in corporate and city ecosystem footprints, improve sustainable outcomes and fulfil Council's biodiversity offset obligations.
  • Supervise, develop, train and motivate staff to achieve Council and departmental goals and policies.

Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated natural resource or environmental management professional with the ability to work strategically and has initiative to work autonomously and ensure objectives are met. You have a strong understanding of project management principles with the ability to prioritise conflicting tasks using a logical approach. Being proactive and solutions focused, you see issues through to resolution.

You have highly developed communication skills and an ability to build collaborative and effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.

You are an experienced people manager and are inspired by the idea of working in an ambitious team providing structure and vision, mentoring, training, and support in a positive and fast-paced environment. You will lead your team and bring them on the journey with you, driving your team toward a culture of innovation, best practice, and continuous improvement to deliver quality services and outcomes for the community.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental, natural resource management, or relevant science/engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing policies and strategies to achieve measurable improvement in ecosystem extent and condition.
  • Specialised knowledge and/or experience implementing aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem rehabilitation and protection projects.
  • A thorough understanding of ecology and impacts on ecosystem structure and function from human activities; contemporary knowledge of effects of climate change on natural systems and ameliorating strategies at both global and local levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an innovative and professional workplace atmosphere for team members; demonstrated experience in effectively managing, developing, and motivating staff.
