Role Purpose:
Prepare high level detailed optic fibre designs and apply continuous improvement processes for Optical Fibre technologies within agreed time, quality, and cost parameters. Provide OF, mainly IEN solutions, for Enterprise Customers by performing a range of IEN Network Design, in both the field and office environments, including but not limited to surveying fibre routes, negotiation with landowners, engagement of Traditional Owners, the preparation of basic or detailed CAD designs, plans, drawings, material ordering, generation of LAANs, engagement of Specialists, e.g. Ecologists and Archaeologists, and other interested parties, design & construction estimates and quotes.
Key Accountabilities:
- Responsible for preparing novel/complex detailed designs, plans, drawings, estimates & quotes.
- Be able to use analytical thinking to comprehend & interpret complex technical concepts.
- Apply continuous improvement processes to contribute to the development of new processes and procedures associated with the design of existing and new technologies (including writing work instructions).
- Provide technical assistance to field staff and customers as required.
- Maintain network integrity at all times.
- Accurately and efficiently produce complex OF detailed designs, cost estimates and feasibility studies, including provision of vendor material.
- Undertake site surveys to determine OF requirements in accordance with standards.
- Provide technical knowledge and skills as part of the team, particularly in the technical design and implementation of customer specific solutions.
- Support the team to accurately maintain DBORS and prepare cost effective solutions for complex rearrangements and cutovers.
- Produce and review design processes in accordance with current Business rules and quality process.
- Complete design work activity, both in the field, remote locations, and in the office, (adhoc travel would be required)
Experience required:
- An in-depth knowledge of optic fibre standards, construction practices, testing and commissioning of Optic Fibre technology
- Demonstrated experience in a technical environment with an understanding of core design and construction activities, technical standards and work flow and measurement processes.
- Ability to produce detailed reports utilising available IT systems.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (engineering, civil/electrical) coupled with 3+ years' experience.
