Network Design Specialist - Engineer
Job Summary
Job DescriptionWhat is the focus of the role?
As a Network Design Specialist - Engineer, you will prepare high level detailed optic fibre (OF) designs and apply continuous improvement processes for Optical Fibre technologies within agreed time, quality, and cost parameters. You will provide optic fibre, mainly Inter-Exchange Network solutions, for Telstra and our Customers by performing a range of IEN Network Design activities, in both the office and sometimes in the field, environments, including but not limited to identifying new optic fibre routes, negotiation with landowners and other stakeholders, engagement of Traditional Owners, coordinating the preparation of basic or detailed CAD designs, plans, drawings, material ordering, generation of Land Access and Activity Notices (LAANs), engagement of Consultants/Specialists, e.g. Ecologists and Archaeologists, and other interested parties, design & construction estimates and quotes.

What You’ll Do
Telstra InfraCo - National Infrastructure Projects is responsible for Telstra's major infrastructure projects, such as the rollout of its Intercity Fibre Network.
Responsible for preparing novel/complex compliant detailed designs, including plans, drawings, estimates & quotes.
Be able to use analytical thinking to comprehend & interpret complex technical concepts.
Apply continuous improvement processes to contribute to the development of new processes and procedures associated with the design of existing and new technologies (including writing work instructions).
Provide technical assistance to field staff and customers as required.
Maintain network integrity at all times within your design
Accurately and efficiently produce complex OF detailed designs, cost estimates and feasibility studies, including provision of material.
You may be required to assist with site surveys to determine OF requirements in accordance with Telstra's standards.
Undertake and complete Feasibilities as required.
Provide technical knowledge and skills as part of the team, particularly in the technical design and implementation of customer specific solutions.
Accurately maintain Telstra DBORS and prepare cost effective solutions for complex rearrangements and cutovers.
Produce and review design processes in accordance with current Business rules and quality process.
Complete design work activity, both in the field, remote locations, and in the office, (adhoc travel would be required)
Liaise with project management, construction operations staff & local authorities as necessary.
About You
Relevant tertiary qualifications (engineering, civil/electrical) coupled with 5+ years’ design and/or construction experience.
And/or Technical Diploma, relevant industry certifications and 5+ years industry design and construction experience.
