Bowen Rail Company is growing our Network team, and we are seeking a Network Rules Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Network Operations Principal, you will be the custodian of the Carmichael Rail Network Rules and Procedures (NRP). This role is responsible for setting, maintaining, and enhancing the operational safety requirements in relation to train operations, network control, and track worker safety.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Safety Leadership: Set the standard for safety at Bowen Rail Company. Demonstrate visible safety leadership in line with the values.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and updating of the Carmichael Rail Network Rules & Procedures (CRN NRP) and associated documents.
  • Develop and ensure timely publication of notices related to the operation of the CRN such as train notices, authority to travel, site safety notices, speed restrictions, etc.
  • Represent BRC at Industry (Rules) forums including actively participating in the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) rules reviews.
  • Facilitate the implementation and review of the Network Rules and Procedures including change management process.
  • Facilitate the implementation and review of Network Rules training documentation including standards, procedures, and instructions to ensure company and legislative compliance.
  • Provision of advice on complex safe working arrangements and develop solutions within the Network Rules framework.
  • Undertake assurance activities including in-field interactions.
  • Conduct and/or support investigations in a timely manner that delivers appropriate outcomes through accurate written reports to assist management with determinations.

Should you ASPIRE to join our team, you will bring: 

  • SARC Safely Access the Rail Corridor (Nationally Accredited) or ability to obtain.
  • RIW Card (Rail Industry Worker Identification) or ability to obtain.
  • Current Open ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence
  • Previous experience in equivalent position
  • Detailed understanding of Train Operations and Network Control Functionality.
  • Detailed understanding of Work on Track activities
  • Computer Proficient (Advanced Microsoft Office, systems)
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and professional presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a part of a team.
  • Effective time management, organisation and ability to multi-task.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
