About the role:
We are seeking compassionate individuals to join our team based out of John Hunter Hospital, where we provide essential Newborn Hearing screening services across several hospitals in the district. As a Newborn Hearing Screener, you will engage directly with parents, seeking consent and conducting vital screenings for newborns. Our team operates independently on shifts while fostering a collaborative environment, ensuring seamless coordination with midwives, hospital managers, and the SWISH team to deliver timely and accurate screenings.
What sets us apart is our commitment to comprehensive on-the-job training, making prior experience unnecessary. This role offers a blend of independence and teamwork, with regular huddles and check-ins to support your professional growth. Shifts typically start at 7:30 AM, providing flexibility and varied experiences as you work closely with maternity wards to identify newborns eligible for screenings throughout the day.
Ideal candidates possess strong communication skills, a background in technical assistance or working with children and families, and the ability to work autonomously while being adaptable and proactive in engaging families during a brief timeframe. If you’re looking to make a tangible impact within our community by supporting families during a crucial stage in their child’s development, we encourage you to apply. Join us in providing exceptional care to newborns and their families, where each screening contributes to a brighter future for these little ones.
