Universal Newborn Hearing Screener
SWISH
John Hunter Hospital
Where you'll be working:
Southern HNELHD SWISH is based at the John Hunter Hospital with Hearing Screeners working at various clinical settings including John Hunter Hospital, Maitland Hospital, Newcastle Private, and John Hunter Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

About the role:
Working with newborns and their families plays an important role in the early detection of hearing loss, which enables them to access appropriate intervention to go on to meet the infant's hearing milestones.

  • Promote a professional, welcoming, and caring environment endorsing a family-centred approach to care, whilst being sensitive to parent's responses
  • Liaise effectively with parents, team members, and other health professionals regarding the screening process and maintain confidentiality
  • Obtain parental consent and conduct Newborn Hearing screens
  • Set up and ensure equipment is functioning appropriately
  • Report infants for follow-up to the SWISH Coordinator
  • Documentation of results
  • Staff is provided with supernumerary days and ongoing education every 2 months
Requirements:
  • Eligibility to drive and willingness and ability to travel across southern HNELHD
