AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities.
They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.
The Opportunity
There are multiple opportunities for Night Attendants to join AHL’s Biala Hostel which provides accommodation and support for First Nations students in achieving their educational goals by offering tutoring, organising out-of-school activities, and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
This is an opportunity for you to make an impact in the lives of First Nations students by providing an environment where cultural safety and wellbeing is prioritised, and the girls can remain connected to their families and community.
The Role
As a Night Attendant, you will be responsible for property, staff and female students, maintaining order and fostering an environment where students feel culturally safe and supported.
You will need to respond to requests and situations in a professional and courteous manner.
You will help to uphold AHL’s commitment to the safety of its staff and residents, work well in a team, manage the security of the hostel at night and support the Hostel Managers and Youth Workers in other general duties as they arise.
The Ideal Person
Great Night Attendants come from a range of backgrounds.
While experience in a similar industry is an advantage, a really successful Night Attendant at Biala Hostel must have empathy and resilience with a calm but firm demeanour.
A background in hospitality management, security and venue management, community health or social and cultural services will be highly regarded.
In addition you will have:
- A strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the challenges First Nations People face
- Confidence to manage facilities and resident behaviour, escalating concerns where needed
- Experience in providing administration services, including preparing reports and using the resident booking system
Biala Hostel operates 24/7 which means work patterns may vary and could involve shift work, and weekends to support engagement with students.
With students returning home during school holidays Biala Hostel closes, providing team members the opportunity to have extended periods of paid leave during the school holidays.
- From $29/hr + generous shift penalties for work after hours, weekends and public holidays
- Pending the outcome of the AHL’s Enterprise Agreement, employees will receive rate increases
- Potential salary packaging options available which can reduce your taxable income and increase your take-home pay
- Meals provided while on duty
You will also find the Vacancy Information pack with further information and eligibility requirements.
No applications made through SEEK will be considered.
