The role
 

The purpose of this role is to oversee efficient and safe operations of the water, wastewater and Digital Meter network assets from a Network Operations Control Centre point of view on a 24/7/365 basis working in a hybrid environment.

The role will leverage system’s capabilities, process optimization and innovative thinking to support maintenance, repairs, emergency response and network augmentation as required. This is an important role that is responsible for managing daily operations involving critical infrastructure assets.

Some of the key accountabilities will include: 

  • Conducting daily monitoring and diagnosis of operational system alarms.
  • Performing routine systems health checks to ensure critical infrastructure can be managed and operated remotely.
  • Works scheduling and daily dispatching of jobs to field crews and third-party service providers
  • Performing basic operational analyses and investigations to ensure reliable operations.
  • Enacting emergency procedures during network bursts, power outages, sewer spills and wet-weather events
  • Coordinating, assessing and granting asset-entry permits for water and sewer assets
Who are you?
 

In order to be considered for this role, applicants will need to possess the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • A trade qualification is essential – water operations/electrical/instrumentation. Tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline would also be advantageous.
  • Preferred 1-2 years’ experience in an asset intensive industry like water/electricity/gas operations.
  • Knowledge of utility operations would be advantageous (especially water/wastewater, but also electricity, gas and other critical infrastructure). Also, any experience in Control Room and/or Advanced Metering Infrastructure
  • Ability to conduct fault diagnosis, trend analysis, troubleshooting for process and equipment
  • Broad understanding of water, sewer, recycled water systems including compliance to the current Health and Safety Legislation and regulations
  • Familiarisation and exposure to works scheduling/work force management systems
  • Familiarisation and exposure to SCADA or DCS systems
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Customer focus – ability to understand and propose solutions based on evolving Customer needs and preferences
  • Familiarisation and exposure to outsourced field operations and maintenance
  • Current driver’s license required.
