Job description

Central Highlands Rural Health are seeking applications for an experienced Nurse Unit Manager to lead the perioperative team of our new purpose built operating theatre at our Daylesford campus.

The Daylesford Hospital operating theatre is scheduled to open July 2024 and will be operating sessions starting three days a week, expanding to five days within the first six months.

The newly refurbished, purpose built facility hosts a sterile stock storage area, recovery and CCSD operations providing state-of-the-art facilities to deliver best care.

General surgery scope of practice at Central Highlands Rural Health includes but is not limited to, colonoscopy and gastroscopy.Ophthalmology Services such as cataract extractions are performed in collaboration with Grampians Health Service.

Role Statement

As the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), your role entails overseeing the Perioperative Unit's operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality care. This involves adeptly managing both clinical and business aspects, fostering effective communication, and active participation. Your responsibilities include optimizing patient outcomes by efficiently coordinating operating services and upholding nursing and perioperative care standards as per legal and professional guidelines. Additionally, you'll oversee resources and staff across various specialties, providing management, mentorship, and support to promote excellence in nursing practice. Emphasizing a culture of best practices, you'll continuously evaluate and incorporate emerging trends in clinical disciplines within the unit.

Key Responsibilities, Duties and Performance Indicators: 

  • Manage the Perioperative Unit operating within a framework that supports innovation and best practice in clinical care.
  • Establish and maintain links with the relevant clinical staff to ensure appropriate and effective implementation of clinical frameworks and guidelines for practice.
  • Provide day to day clinical supervision, support and leadership for clinical staff working in the unit.
  • Lead the team in developing, implementing and evaluating innovative models of clinical care.
  • Advanced understanding and familiarity with accreditation standards.
  • Ability to relate accreditation standards concept and quality frameworks to business operations.

Details of Appointment

Part-time position working 64 hours per fortnight (flexible working roster) (Immediate start with an opportunity to move to full-time)

Salary:  $61.56 Per hour +  11% superannuation + access to salary packaging
