Overview
Older Persons Mental Health Specialised Services (OPMHSS) is a multi-disciplinary team hosted within the Rural and Remote Mental Health Service (RRMHS) and incorporates the Rapid In-reach Service (RIS) and the Consultation Liaison Services (CLS) and functions across all regional LHNs alongside other Older Person's Mental Health Services programs. OPMHSS provides specialist and responsive in-reach to mainstream Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) for consumers with recognised or probable severe psychiatric illness, &/or a diagnosed dementia with complex, severe and persistent behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD). OPMHSS also aims to streamline and facilitate specialist Older Persons care pathways and build skills in managing psychiatric illness via distance consultation, information, and advice. The OPMHSS is the pathway to access Older Persons telepsychiatry services and facilitation of inpatient admissions.
The OPMHSS aims to prevent or reduce inappropriate transfer of consumers to acute care or the Emergency Departments, streamline and facilitate specialist care pathways, build skills in managing psychiatric illness and BPSD via education and training for regional Mental Health and Residential Aged Care staff and provides short term clinical services to consumers, their families and RACF staff.
The Nurse Consultant role is based at Glenside Campus with the expectation of regular travel at short notice, including overnight, to all regional LHNs dependent on service requirements.
