Position summary
Selection criteria
Essential:
- Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Appropriate Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) for practice that meets the requirements of section 129 (1) of the National Law.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- Current Police Check.
Desirable:
- Approval of the Commonwealth Health Minister for access to the Australian Government Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).
- Approval for access to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
- An understanding of the Commonwealth Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
- An understanding or experience of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Standards for general practices.
- An understanding of Rural Health.
Key responsibilities
Organisational:

- MTHCS has a responsibility to maintain current policy; it is the responsibility of all staff to be aware of current policy.

Professional:
- The NP must practice in accordance with the NMBA’s Safety and quality guidelines for nurse practitioners.
- The NP is accountable operationally to the EDON and Practice Manager for the safe and effective care of patients and clients of the health service.
- With the Practice Manager, develop and monitor measurable Nurse Practitioner key performance indicators and reporting framework in conjunction with MTHCS policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the deployment and implementation of evidenced based clinical practice guidelines.
- Ensure a patient centered practice and deliver education on clinical issues to patients and carers within the clinical environment.
- Liaise with medical clinic staff to solve problems related to patient care as needed.
- Provide high quality, primary health care services to the community, in keeping with best practice standards.
- Provide appropriate care and services to patients of all age ranges and level of health care needs.
- Respond to medical/health problems presented by patients including history taking, diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate.
- Provide after hours, on call and hospital services as rostered if applicable.
- Provide management of long-term chronic conditions in line with National guidelines and pathways.
- Prescribe for patients as appropriate to need.
- Ordering diagnostic tests as required.
- Referring patients to other provers as appropriate.
- Other duties as directed.

Section 21 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004, requires an Employer to provide and maintain, so far as is reasonable and practicable, a safe workplace for all employees and ensure that no employee is placed at risk of injury while performing the duties and responsibilities required by their position.
To comply with this obligation, MTHCS requires all candidates/employees to have the mental and physical capacity to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position they are applying for (or have been appointed to).
If a risk is identified and fitness to safely perform the duties of the position needs to be determined, MTHCS with the agreement of the candidate/employee, will arrange an independent medical assessment to determine capacity to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position to minimise the risk of injury or aggravation of any pre-existing condition the candidate/employee may have.
