Nurse Unit Manager - St Vincent's Hospital
The Perioperative ServicesNurse Unit Manager is an integral part of the Procedural Areas Leadership team. You will provide support, leadership, management and governance to the nursing and ancillary teams while working with our VMO community to provide amazing care for our patients. You will provide advanced skills and knowledge to support staff and surgeons in the smooth running of lists with a focus on patient safety and best outcomes. A core component of the role is leadership for the team as well as developing sound procurement and human resource principles. The ability to provide ongoing education to junior staff is essential to ensure success in this role. The Theatre Manager is required to work in accordance with the mission and vision of Calvary and actively participate in a culture that promotes Calvary’s values.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Nurse Unit Manager you will be responsible for the management and coordination of St Vincent’s theatre, including 4 Operating rooms, Day procedure, Post anaesthetic care unit, & CSD.
The role encompasses planning, implementing and evaluating practices, processes and services. This position requires team work to achieve excellence in care delivery in line with best practice and legislative requirements. Some key responsibilities include:
Human and material resource management in alignment with the theatre schedule
Partnering with VMOs for theatre allocation and equipment management
Recruitment and retention of nursing and theatre assistants
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate peri-operative nursing care in collaboration with individuals and the multidisciplinary health care team, so as to achieve goals and positive health outcomes.
Take an active role in the coordination of nursing and health care ensuring they practice independently and interdependently, assuming accountability and responsibility for their own actions, and where applicable, delegation of care.
Responsible and accountable for the financial outcomes of the Perioperative Services, achieving performance targets
Demonstrated knowledge of safety and quality, clinical governance frameworks and innovative models of care

What you bring
Registration with NMBA through AHPRA as a registered Nurse
Formal perioperative Nursing qualifications
Sound understanding of clinical standards, and local policies & procedures
Accountable for own standards of practice and providing support & ongoing education to junior staff
Experience and or an understanding of Human Resource Principles
Experience in procurement principles
Dedicated to best practice and best patient outcomes
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated communication, interpersonal skills and customer service skills
